about

Vacation recordings usually come out more like sketches. They're unplanned, simple, and lighthearted. In a few months I'll probably wish I'd edited down the track list or at least actually sequenced it. But I'm sick of my inner critic and am just going more on impulse. Besides, I see how many plays and downloads this page gets...so there really shouldn't be any kind of pressure.

This EP contains everything I recorded in chronological order on my weeklong vacation to Vermont. It was a great week, so why not leave it intact?

I was still feeling burnt out from the last album and didn't really have a lot of drive to record but part of me still wanted to at least give it a shot in a new and beautiful environment.

Most pieces had fewer tracks than normal and I wanted to keep the songs shorter. This was partly due to my burn out, but also that I'd rather be outside or at least with my attention not focused on anything. Every piece was recorded much more quickly and loosely, which to me feels more honest and real, for better or worse.

So this time vacation recording was also a vacation from getting bogged down by overthinking. Recording was as immediate as possible, which did lead to the loop pedal a little more than I wanted, but I was vacationing from thoughts like that, so I can use fewer loops later.

Recorded in an Air bnb in Berlin, Vermont.

Instrumentation: guitar, cello, viola, samplers and various percussion instruments graciously supplied by my Air bnb hosts.

The cover photo was from the view directly outside the house, essentially the same view (in double exposure) I had while recording, which explains why I'd rather be outside and/or unfocused.
