about

This one came out kinda strange. It started hot off the heels of "Berlin Sketchbook," and initially followed a similar creative direction.

On that E.P., I brought back a more heavy distortion pedal that I may not have ever used in this project, or at least not since the very beginning. This creates a more lo-fi sound than normal and I forgot how challenging mixing noisier sounds can be, especially when you have the tendency to record too many tracks per piece. I also find it easier to excuse more tracks on a short piece (and nearly all of the pieces here are shorter than normal), but that's a habit I'd like to break.

The first few months of recording were light and productive, but with the beginning of the genocide in Gaza, things ground to a halt for a while. I could not concentrate on anything other than news from the ground and attempts to play music, let alone recording, were little more than quickly getting frustrated with the inability to form any musical ideas and giving up. I didn't want music to feel that bad and in hindsight, I just couldn't bring myself to care about music. It was the last thing on my mind, and watching a genocide senselessly continue will certainly mess you up.

After a couple of months the creativity returned but what came out definitely felt different than what had been recorded July through September. It was coming from a completely different place.
